For the past two weeks the children in my third grade class are taking the CMTs. I was able to go work in a first grade classroom during testing. I really enjoyed the experience. I was first told that I was just going in there to observe, so when I got to work the the children I was very excited. I had worked with individual children on either spelling or math. I enjoyed seeing the difference in the children from first to third grade.
I could see the ideas and concepts that were forming in the children, that they will have to develop for the third grade.
Not only the working with the first graders was a great experience, but seeing the classroom management was interesting. Every classroom that I go into, has something different and i think that it is a great learning experience to take all that in. Even though I will still have my own way of doing things, I will be able to more of a background.

I agree that having a background to pool from is very important. I feel like the more experiences and ideas and resources we have to draw from the more we will benefit as we enter the Field of Education.
That is so cool that you had such a positive experience in the first grade! Do you think you would like to teach that grade? I have spent a lot of time in 1st and 2nd, those are the grade levels I have fallen in love with.
Intially going into my Tuesday Experience I wanted to teach that grade. Now that I am in third grade, I kind of like it. I feel that the children are more independent easier to work with. It is hard to say though, I was only working with the firt grades for an hour at most. Defiantly between 1st and 3rd grade though.
Have you worked with older kids yet? I know that you have fallen in love with the younger grades, is that because you mostly work with them?
During the CMTs, I also spent time in a first grade classroom. I had a great time and I enjoyed the class, however, spending time at that grade level reinforced my desire to teach fourth or fifth grade. I used to only want to teach first or second because I think I was afraid of working with older kids. Since I have been spending more and more with the upper grades, I am certain that I want to teach fourth or fifth. The books I buy for my personal library collection are targeted for that age group as well.
