I have not yet since my teacher incorporate literature circles in her classroom. I have talked with her about working with a small group of children on literature. If i have the opportunity i would defiantly have a literature circle. I think that it is a great way for students to be more exposed to different reading materials. I feel that it is hard to sometimes get children interested in reading, but if they were able to find something that they like it would be more meaningful to the children.
Literature circles are something that i would like to use in my own classroom. It reminds me of show and tell but with books.

I'm not sure what school you are in, but if you still haven't seen a literary circle you are more than welcome to come to the classroom I am placed it to observe one. My classroom teacher has no problem with visitors. What does your teacher do in literature lessons?
The goal for all of the students in my class is to have participated in at least two literature circles by the end of the year (the duration for a literature circle is six weeks!). I will be working with a group of five students for six weeks on the book Sounder. The mother of a student is an AP English teacher for Farmington High School who had volunteered to do a literature circle with the higher level children; I was able to observe the format that the students are used to and I look forward to my own circle! Her group just finished their last week together, so I will start the Tuesday following February break. I will keep you updated as to how everything is unfolding and hopefully I will have some tips about what works and what does not work so well. Let me know if you would like to see what the packet looks like that I will be using for the group!
